Project Overview
In April 2023, Wessex Pumps and Pipework were commissioned to carry out a full replacement and commissioning of the irrigation system servicing all 18 tee boxes at The Wychwood Golf Club. For several years, the club had been hand-watering these areas due to an inefficient and unreliable automatic system.
Challenges Identified
An initial audit of the existing infrastructure revealed that approximately 75% of the pop-up sprinkler units were unserviceable, causing inconsistent water distribution and a heavy burden on the greenkeeping team. The club was eager to restore full automation to improve both course condition and maintenance efficiency.
Our Solution
After consultation with the club’s management and grounds team, we agreed on a complete overhaul of the tee box irrigation system. Our scope included:
- Supply, installation and commissioning of 200 new pop-up sprinklers
- Installation of two vertical multistage booster pumps, designed to run on a constant pressure system to ensure reliable performance
This new system delivers consistent pressure and flow, ensuring that water reaches each sprinkler efficiently—no matter how many are in operation.
The Results
Since the completion of the project, feedback from both club members and greenkeeping staff has been overwhelmingly positive. The new system has significantly improved the condition of the tee boxes and has eliminated the need for manual watering.
